“Unlocking the doors to success, one Blue Jay at a time! Hello, I am Karen Smart, principal at Needville Jr. High. I firmly believe in this statement and work very hard to achieve success with all of my students at the Jr. High.
I have been in the field of education for 19 years. I am a graduate of the College of the Southwest, located in Hobbs, New Mexico. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a major in Math and Physical Education. I taught and coached for 6 years in Seminole, Texas, my high school alma mater. Needville has been my home for 13 years. I have taught and/or coached for 10 of those years at the Jr. High level. The last 3 years have found me in administration, after receiving my Masters of Education – Mid-management, from the University of Houston @ Victoria.
My husband, James and I have 2 children. Logan is a sophomore at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, where he is majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He is a member of the Lumberjack Cross Country and Track teams competing at the collegiate level. Our daughter Kourtney is a senior at Needville High School. She is active in extra-curricular events, as well as being a student trainer for our athletic teams. Her accomplishments include representing our school at Girl’s State and being Youth Fair Queen for 2008.
I expect the “best” from my students every day. I firmly believe in learning something new each day, and reinforcing what was learned the day before. My goal is to not only educate our students, but to help them become better citizens by following examples of respect, responsibility, and discipline.
